Join me for my second visit to the stunning Fashion & Costume Museum – Museo Moda e del Costume! Recently reopened after years of restoration and reorganization, if and when you visit Palazzo Pitti here in Florence (and you should!), it is included in your ticket!

♦ The exhibit walks you through eight beautifully curated rooms which take you chronologically from the 18th to the early 21st century with 60 displays including lovely gowns, costumes, shoes, hats, gloves, and fans.

♦ Their vast collection – they house over 6,000 pieces – is rotated periodically. To add to the appeal, they have chosen paintings from the Uffizi that complement the fashions. Sensational!

♦ Italian style icons such as Valentino, Schiaparelli, Gucci, Versace, and Fortuny are included as is the absolutely out-of-this-world pink sequined gown once worn by Donna Franca Florio.

♦ Most of the collection has been donated and some pieces have been purchased. Due to the fragility of the materials, they are carefully stored and restored in a dedicated laboratory.

♦ Also, on permanent display are the funeral garments of Cosimo de’ Medici, Eleonora o Toledo, and their son Don Garcia, which underwent extensive painstaking restoration. To say the least, they are treasures…
♦ What You Should Know:
The Fashion and Costume Museum is one of six (yes, six!) galleries in Palazzo Pitti. Your single entrance ticket entitles you to all six.
Palazzo Pitti is managed under the same Director and administration as the Uffizi Galleries. There are combo passes available for purchase (which include the Uffizi Gallery, Pitti Palace, and Boboli Gardens).
