Palermo, Capital of Culture 2018 and MORE!
It’s been years since I’ve visited Palermo but, since Palermo is not only the capital of Sicily but Italy’s 2018 Cultural Capital, it was time for an in-depth visit.
Over the past several days I’ve enjoyed a delightful and delicious time exploring Palermo….
I was looking forward to becoming reacquainted with Palermo and to getting a sneak preview of what our guests would be enjoying later in the year ..including cannoli tasting, of course!
And I haven’t been disappointed! Palermo is absolutely magnificent!
Let me show you why…
As with many cities in the south of Italy, Palermo has had, shall we say, a dubious reputation. However, as Italy’s Capital of Culture, along with increasing interest in Sicily as a travel destination, Palermo can proudly step into the limelight…
Magnificent palazzi proudly line the boulevards and streets.
Palermo’s third largest opera house in Europe, elegant Teatro Massimo…
…and glorious cathedrals remind us of Palermo’s rich, proud history and heritage…
The historical center, with many “pedestrian only” thoroughfares, is easily explored on foot and is positively brimming with tempting galleries, delicacies & specialties to sample, artisan & souvenir shops and historical monuments…
Including Pupi Siciliani marionette operetta performances, unique to Sicily…
Lively, stylish & spectacular at any time of day & night!
And you know how I love local markets!! And at Il Capo, Mercato Storico di Palermo, you can enjoy Palermo’s famous street food.
And, a visit nearby Mondello in Palermo’s outskirts. A perfect place to relax and enjoy a cappuccino or gelato, don’t you agree?
As always, seeing and experiencing a place with locals is, for me, the most gratifying and enriching…
Wish You Were Here!?
Here’s where we stayed in Palermo!! Is it your turn now…?
