♦ Expressing Color and Inspiration on Canvas and Silk ♦
It was such a lovely gesture and privilege to be invited to meet Elizabeth. Maria, my very thoughtful friend and Friend of Victoria, who is passionate and knowledgeable about local artists and artisans, had arranged a private and exclusive morning with Elizabeth. I was thrilled to be invited and to join her!
I knew of Elizabeth via various social media platforms. I knew that she was British-born, lived and worked between the UK and Florence, and is recognized and highly regarded as a contemporary artist. And I was looking forward to learning more…

Our morning started with a short ride just above Florence to Bellosguardo, a new part of the city for me. Although it’s literally minutes from the historic center and my neighborhood on the Oltrarno, it was a delightful change of scenery. After all bello =beautiful and guardo = view -> translates into “beautiful view” and it is! The vantage point is spectacular.
♦ When she is in Italy, Elizabeth lives and works in the lovely coach house she calls home here. Private and tranquil, it is the perfect place to retreat and create!
♦ We are greeted warmly and given an informal tour of her lovely garden and inner sanctum/ private oasis.
♦ Maria and I are immediately charmed by her eclectic collections and personal treasures intermingled with her own artworks.
♦ The ambience is imbued with pleasing palettes of color and design…

♦ A contemporary artist who translates her vision onto canvas and silk, Elizabeth shares that her scarves and paintings are reflections of and inspired by her mood at the time. The result is creations that are both ethereal and evocative, even a bit mysterious.
Elizabeth surrounds herself with dreamy pastel palettes…
♦ Her talent and expression on canvas and silk are perfectly summarized on her website:
“Thanks to her background in fashion and design and her love for textiles, she has an intuitive understanding of color, texture and shape. Each scarf is treated as an individual work of art, just like her internationally sold canvas paintings that reflect many layers of color and subject inspiration.”
♦ I’m especially enamored with the soft diaphanous quality and lovely transparency of her beautiful silk scarves. Draped everywhere to admire, each one unique, they are irresistible invitations to whirl and twirl…like dancing with delicate wings…you feel like a gossamer cloud!
Maria in motion!
♦ Also a gracious hostess, we enjoy a lovely rose Prosecco and conversation…and promises to see each other in fall (COVID and life permitting)!
(I leave thinking about what I want for my custom scarf! Which one would you choose?)
